Northwest Africa 14968 (NWA 14968) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2016 Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L5) History: Purchased by Darryl Pitt in 2016 from a dealer in Ilion, New York, who had obtained it from a Moroccan source. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, BrownU) Some well-formed, equilibrated chondrules are present within a relatively coarse grained recrystallized matrix containing sodic plagioclase, augite, stained kamacite (with holly-leaf grain shapes), troilite, chromite and chlorapatite. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa25.0±0.4, range Fa24.3-25.6, N = 6), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs20.9±0.1Wo1.5±0.3, range Fs20.7-21.0Wo1.1-1.8, N = 6). Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L5). Specimens: 38.0 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with DPitt. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
