Northwest Africa 14979 (NWA 14979) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 Aug Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL5) History: Purchased by Jason Whitcomb in August 2021 from an Algerian dealer. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, BrownU) Sparse chondrules (glass-free) occur within a largely recrystallized assemblage containing sodic plagioclase, kamacite, troilite, chromite, augite and merrillite. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa28.9±0.2, range Fa28.6-29.2, N = 6), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs24.3±0.3Wo1.6±0.1, range Fs24.0-24.7Wo1.5-1.7, N = 5), augite (Fs11.4Wo42.4). Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL5). Specimens: 25.9 g including one polished thin section at PSF; remainder with Mr. J. Whitcomb. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
