Writeup from MB 111:
Northwest Africa 14935 (NWA 14935) Mauritania Purchased: 2022 Classification: Ureilite History: A nomad found 3 fragments in northwest Africa that were eventually purchased by Carlos Muñecas (Expometeoritos) in 2022 from a dealer in Mauritania. Physical characteristics: Samples have a brownish-orange, crystalline exterior and are irregular-shaped. Petrography: Description and classification (A. Love, App) Sample shows granoblastic texture composed of olivine (with reduced grain boundaries composed of forsteritic olivine and enstatite and rare high Ca pyroxene) and twinned pigeonite. Additional minerals are: FeNi metal, troilite, chromite and FeO. Geochemistry: Olivine (Cores: Fa19.0±0.3, Fe/Mn=39.1±1.9, n=10; rims Fa7.9±3.6, Fe/Mn 14.2±6.5, n=5, Cr2O3=0.77±0.7, CaO=0.31±0.04); enstatite rims (Fs2.5±1.5Wo2.6±1.4, n=4); pigeonite (Fs14.8±4.5Wo7.8±0.8, n=9); high Ca Pyroxene (Fs9.4Wo28.2, n=1). (Fs9.4Wo28.2, n=1). Classification: Ureilite. Sample is a ureilite based on texture, reduced mineral compositions and presence of graphite. Specimens: Carlos Muñecas (Expometeoritos) holds the 90 g main mass. A polished thin section and a cut individual weighing 20.5 g are on deposit at App. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
