Northwest Africa 14558 (NWA 14558) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 Jun Classification: Primitive achondrite (Winonaite) History: Purchased by Jason Whitcomb in June 2021 from an Algerian dealer. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Triple grain junction texture (mean grainsize ~200 µm). Composed of forsterite, enstatite, diopside, and kamacite (some altered) together with accessory sodic plagioclase, fluoroedenite amphibole, taenite, schreibersite, troilite and graphite. Geochemistry: Forsterite (Fa3.5-3.9, FeO/MnO = 18-23, N = 4), enstatite (Fs4.2-4.4Wo1.6-1.9, FeO/MnO = 13-15, N = 4), diopside (Fs1.1-1.7Wo44.5-45.3, FeO/MnO =10-18, N = 4), plagioclase (Ab75.6An21.1Or3.2). Classification: Winonaite. Specimens: 32.7 g in the form of a polished endcut at PSF; remainder with Mr. J. Whitcomb. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
