Northwest Africa 14565 (NWA 14565) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 Aug Classification: HED achondrite (Diogenite) History: Purchased by Shun-Chung Yang in August 2021 from a dealer in Tindouf, Algeria. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, Brown U.) Coarse grained assemblage (in part cataclastic) of predominantly orthopyroxene (~80 vol.%) and olivine (~17 vol.%) with accessory chromite, stained Fe metal, rare augite and rare troilite. Grainsizes are as follows: orthopyroxene (up to several millimeters), olivine (up to 0.75 mm) and chromite (up to 0.5 mm). Geochemistry: Orthopyroxene (Fs22.2-23.8Wo1.0-1.9, FeO/MnO = 23-26, N = 20), olivine (Fa27.3-28.0, FeO/MnO = 41-44, N = 5). Classification: Diogenite (olivine-orthopyroxenitic). Specimens: 23.3 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. S.-C. Yang. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
