Writeup from MB 111:
Northwest Africa 14883 (NWA 14883) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 Jun Classification: Rumuruti chondrite (R3) History: Purchased by Jason Whitcomb in June 2021 from an Algerian dealer. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Separated, well-formed, relatively small chondrules (apparent diameter 300±80 µm, N = 23) are set in a fine-grained metal-free matrix (~35 vol.%). Both unequilibrated and equilibrated chondrules are present. Groundmasses of porphyritic chondrules contain both glass and sodic plagioclase. Accessory phases include pentlandite and troilite in composite sulfide assemblages. Glass and sodic plagioclase are present in porphyritic chondrules. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa27.4±13.2, range Fa7.6-40.7, N = 6), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs14.4±13.7Wo1.3±1.8, range Fs2.4-33.0Wo0.3-3.9, N = 4), subcalcic augite (Fs15.6Wo24.8; Fs8.3Wo30.1; N = 2). Classification: R3 chondrite. Specimens: 34.6 g in the form of a polished endcut at PSF; remainder with Mr. J. Whitcomb. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
