Northwest Africa 15079 (NWA 15079) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 Jun Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L5) History: Purchased by Jason Whitcomb in June 2021 from an Algerian dealer. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, BrownU) Sparse chondrules (glass-free) occur within a largely recrystallized assemblage containing sodic plagioclase, augite, stained kamacite, taenite, troilite, chromite, merrillite and chlorapatite. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa24.8±0.2, range Fa24.6-25.1, N = 5), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs20.9±0.2Wo1.9±0.1, range Fs20.7-21.3Wo1.7-2.0, N = 6), augite (Fs10.6Wo43.0). Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L5). Specimens: 23.6 g including one polished thick section at PSF; remainder with Mr. J. Whitcomb. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
