Northwest Africa 15081 (NWA 15081)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2021 Jun

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L5)

History: Purchased by Jason Whitcomb in June 2021 from an Algerian dealer.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, BrownU) Sparse chondrules containing devitrified glass and plagioclase occur within a largely recrystallized assemblage containing sodic plagioclase, augite, stained kamacite, troilite, chromite and merrillite.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa25.1±0.4, range Fa24.7-25.6, N = 5), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs21.0±0.2Wo1.5±0.2, range Fs20.6-21.2Wo1.2-1.7, N = 6), augite (Fs8.3Wo44.0).

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L5).

Specimens: 21.9 g including one polished thick section at PSF; remainder with Mr. J. Whitcomb.
