Northwest Africa 15016 (NWA 15016) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2022 Classification: Martian meteorite (Shergottite) History: The meteorite was purchased from a meteorite dealer in Algeria. Physical characteristics: Grayish to slighly greenish rock without fusion crust. Petrography: The meteorite displays a coarse-grained diabasic texture predominantly composed of up to 800 µm sized irregularly zoned pyroxene and interstitial maskelynite. Maskelynite contains myrmekitic intergrowths of silica, Ca-pyroxene, and ilmenite. Minor phases include partly exsolved ilmenite, troilite, and merrillite. The meteorite is highly shocked and contains shock melt veins and pockets. Geochemistry: complex zoned pyroxene: Fs37.9±15.7Wo27.7±9.1 (Fs19.8-65.7Wo14.2-37.8, FeO/MnO=32±3, n=17); maskelynite: An50.2±3.8Ab48.0±3.3Or1.8±0.5 (An45.2-55.9Ab42.8-52.5Or1.0-2.5, n=10) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
