Northwest Africa 15024 (NWA 15024) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 Aug Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L4) History: Purchased by Jason Whitcomb in August 2021 from an Algerian dealer. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, BrownU) Well-formed equilibrated chondrules containing devitrified glass are set in a relatively coarse grained matrix containing kamacite, taenite, troilite and chromite, but no plagioclase. Some patches and veins of opaque shock melt material are present. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa25.9±0.4, range Fa25.5-26.7, N = 9), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs21.4±0.3Wo1.2±0.5, range Fs21.0-21.8Wo0.8-2.0, N = 6). Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L4, with shock melt veins). Specimens: 20.7 g including one polished thin section at PSF; remainder with Mr. J. Whitcomb. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
