Northwest Africa 14744 (NWA 14744) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 Jun Classification: Mesosiderite History: Purchased by Jason Whitcomb in June 2021 from an Algerian dealer. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Relatively coarse grained aggregate of altered kamacite (~50 vol.%) together with orthopyroxene and anorthite, plus accessory augite, subcalcic augite, schreibersite, silica polymorph and merrillite. Geochemistry: Orthopyroxene (Fs31.7-33.2Wo3.7-3.9, FeO/MnO = 23-26, N = 4), augite (Fs17.3-17.7Wo39.2-39.3, FeO/MnO = 17-21, N = 2), subcalcic augite (Fs22.7Wo23.7, FeO/MnO = 19), anorthite (An90.5-96.7Or0.2-0.1, N = 4). Classification: Mesosiderite. Specimens: 29.2 g in the form of a polished endcut at PSF; remainder with Mr. J. Whitcomb. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
