Northwest Africa 14925 (NWA 14925) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 Oct Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, monomict) History: Purchased by Jason Whitcomb in October 2021 from an Algerian dealer. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, BrownU) Monomict breccia composed of subophitic eucrite clasts plus related crystalline debris in a fine grained matrix. Minerals are exsolved pigeonite, calcic plagioclase, silica polymorph, ilmenite, troilite, chromite and Fe metal. Some thin, dark shock veinlets are present. Geochemistry: Low-Ca pyroxene (Fs58.8-63.1Wo1.5-5.0, FeO/MnO = 29-32, N = 10), augite (Fs27.8-28.5Wo42.1-41.5, FeO/MnO = 29-32, N = 2), plagioclase (An 89.1-90.4Or0.4-0.3, N = 4). Classification: Eucrite (subophitic, monomict breccia). Specimens: 23.2 g including one polished thin section at PSF; remainder with Mr. J. Whitcomb. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
