Northwest Africa 15100 (NWA 15100)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2021 Sep

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H4)

History: Purchased by Jason Whitcomb in September 2021 from an Algerian dealer.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, BrownU) Well-formed equilibrated chondrules containing devitrified glass occur within a relatively coarse grained matrix containing stained kamacite, taenite, troilite, chromite and merrillite, but no plagioclase.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa19.0±1.2, PMD = 4.1%, range Fa18.2-21.4, N = 6), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs16.6±0.2Wo1.1±0.1, range Fs16.4-16.9Wo1.0-1.2, N = 6), augite (Fs8.4Wo44.0).

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H4).

Specimens: 22.7 g including one polished thick section at PSF; remainder with Mr. J. Whitcomb.
