Northwest Africa 15101 (NWA 15101) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 Sep Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L4) History: Purchased by Jason Whitcomb in September 2021 from an Algerian dealer. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, BrownU) Well-formed equilibrated chondrules containing devitrified glass occur within a relatively coarse grained matrix containing augite, stained kamacite, taenite, troilite, chromite and merrillite, but no plagioclase. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa24.5±0.5, range Fa23.4-24.8, N = 6), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs13.3±7.4Wo0.5±0.3, range Fs5.3-24.6Wo0.1-0.9, N = 6), pigeonite (Fs14.7Wo5.6; Fs17.4Wo11.5; N = 2). Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L4). Specimens: 21.1 g including one polished thick section at PSF; remainder with Mr. J. Whitcomb. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
