Writeup from MB 111:
Grizim 001 25º57.7167N, 1º30.6667W Adrar, Algeria Purchased: 2021 Classification: Rumuruti chondrite (R3) History: Many small specimens plus four masses weighing 122, 119, 112, and 97 g were found by meteorite prospectors while they were trying to find the Erg Chech 002 meteorites. Adrian Contreras Gomez (CRATER meteorites) purchased the samples in Tindouf, Algeria, on August 24, 2021, from Mostafa Hnini. Physical characteristics: Samples have an irregular shape and a dark brown exterior and interior. The cut face shows a chondritic texture lacking metal. Type specimen shows one small patch of relict fusion crust. Petrography: Description and classification (A. Love, App) Sample shows brecciated chondritic texture composed of ~45 vol% distributed, distinct chondrules and fragments w/in a partially transparent (olivine dominant) matrix. Some chondrule glass exists. Average diameter of chondrules is 430 μm, n=77. Additional minerals are: chromite and phosphates. FeS minerals are completely altered. Geochemistry: (A. Love, App) Olivine chondrules (Fa23.8±13.1, Fe/Mn=64.8±24.5, NiO=0.1±0.0 CV%= 56, n=19), matrix (Fa43.5±0.3, Fe/Mn=87.7±3.5, NiO=0.1±0.1, n=3); low Ca pyroxene (Fs15.0±9.6Wo1.4±1.8, Fe/Mn=30.0±20.9, n=20). Classification: Rumurutiite Chondrite (R3, C-S2). Rumuruti chondrite based on: chondrule diameter; matrix abundance and composition; and lack of CAIs. Estimated subtype R3.4 based on CV% Specimens: Adrián Contreras Gómez (CRATER meteorites) holds the 122 g mass. A polished thin section and an individual weighing 26.15 g are on deposit at App. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
