Writeup from MB 111:
Iftiyssane 32º43.1833N, 4º59.1W Centre-South, Morocco Purchased: 2021 Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L6, melt breccia) History: Twelve samples ranging in weight from 273-1250 g were found near Midelt commune, known as Ait Ayach in Morocco. The meteorites were purchased by Adrián Contreras Gómez (CRATER meteorites) from Hmad Ait Hssain in Morocco in Dec. of 2021. Physical characteristics: Sample is ovoid in shape, and has an orange and black exterior (corresponding to chondritic portions and impact melted portions respectively). The cut face shows the interior is composed of shock melted regions and those with chondritic texture and obvious metal. Petrography: Description and classification (A. Love, App) Breccia showing shocked chondritic clasts in an impact melt. Clasts are heavily recrystallized (only droplet chondrules are recognizable by texture). Additional minerals are: Apatite, albitic plagioclase, chromite, kamacite, taenite and troilite. Geochemistry: (A. Love, App) Olivine (Fa22.6±0.3, Fe/Mn=44.1±1.4, n=12); low Ca pyroxene (Fs20.0±0.5Wo1.3±0.2, Fe/Mn=26.9±1.0, n=12). Classification: Ordinary Chondrite (L6 impact melt breccia C-S5 W1) Lack of chondrules and mineral compositions suggest sample is L6. Specimens: Adrián Contreras Gómez (CRATER meteorites) holds the 1250 g main mass. A polished thin section and a 39.12 g endcut are on deposit at App. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
