Writeup from MB 111:

Northwest Africa 15074 (NWA 15074)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2022

Classification: HED achondrite (Diogenite, melt breccia)

History: The meteorite was purchased from a meteorite dealer in Algeria.

Physical characteristics: Grayish fragment with minor fusion crust.

Petrography: Diogenite-melt breccia composed of up to 2 mm sized mineral fragments set into abundant shock melted matrix. Predominant minerals are low Ca-pyroxene partly with blebby and lamellar augite exsolutions and calcic plagioclase. The shock melt shows pronounced flow strcutures and is mostly recrystallized to acicular pyroxene and plagioclase grains. Mineral fragments in contact with the melt are partly resorbed. Minor phases include chromite and FeS. No metallic iron detected. Contains cracks filled with secondary calcite.

Geochemistry: low-Ca pyroxene: Fs33.3±0.2Wo2.2±0.2 (Fs33.1-33.6Wo1.9-2.5, FeO/MnO=26-29, n=7); augite exsolutions: Fs13.5±0.6Wo44.2±0.6 (Fs12.7-14.5Wo43.3-44.8, FeO/MnO=21-24, n=7); calcic plagioclase: An93.0±0.6 (An91.6-93.4, n=7)
