Northwest Africa 15031 (NWA 15031)

Purchased: 2022 Mar

Classification: Primitive achondrite (Lodranite)

History: Purchased by Ziyao Wang in March 2022 from a dealer in Agadir, Morocco.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Relatively coarse grained protogranular aggregate (grainsizes up to ~1.2 mm) composed of predominantly olivine and diopside with subordinate ferroan enstatite and accessory kamacite and chromite (Ti-free and V-bearing).

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa10.6-11.0, FeO/MnO = 23-24, N = 4), enstatite (Fs9.6±0.0Wo1.3-1.5, FeO/MnO = 13-14, N = 3), diopside (Fs3.2-3.9Wo45.6-45.2, FeO/MnO = 7-9, N = 3), kamacite (Ni 6.9 wt.%).

Classification: Lodranite.

Specimens: 4.9 g in the form of a polished endcut at UWB; remainder with WangZ.
