Writeup from MB 111:

Errachidia 008        31°38.9624’N, 4°49.9337’W

Centre-South, Morocco

Find: Dec 2021

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H4)

History: Cascadia received 37.6 g of material from Mustapha Oulkouch, who found the meteorite in December 2021.

Physical characteristics: Physical Characteristics: The cut face shows numerous light-colored chondrules set amidst a medium-brown background that is crosscut by numerous fine darker brown veins.

Petrography: (M. Hutson, A. Ruzicka, Cascadia): In thin section, there is 80-90% replacement of metal and sulfide, with weathering surrounding chondrules and fragments. Chondrule mesostases are devitrified with numerous small crystallites set in feldspathic material. BSE imaging shows that the interchondrule material is comprised of small (mostly < 20µm) angular mineral shards mixed with a variety of weathering products, including calcite.

Geochemistry: Olivine: Fa18.6±1.3, N=19; low-Ca pyroxene: Fs14.5±3.6Wo1.1±0.3, N=18.

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H4) based on chemistry and texture.

Specimens: Cascadia holds 35.6 g in five pieces, as well as a polished thin section and material in an epoxy butt; Mustapha Oulkouch holds the main mass.
