Northwest Africa 15131 (NWA 15131)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2021

Classification: Rumuruti chondrite (R3)

History: Purchased by Jinji Li from a Moroccan dealer at the 2021 Hunan Mineral and Gem Show in Chenzhou City, China.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, BrownU) Well-formed unequilibrated chondrules (apparent diameter 730 ± 420 µm, N = 25) containing devitrified glass are set in a fine grained, partly recrystallized matrix (~30 vol.%, brown in thin section) containing stained pentlandite and troilite, but no metal or magnetite.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa24.1±13.6, range Fa0.7-51.1, N = 16), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs15.5±6.9Wo1.5±1.2, range Fs9.2-29.3Wo0.2-4.1, N = 7)

Classification: R3 chondrite.

Specimens: 36.2 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. Jinji Li.
