Northwest Africa 15137 (NWA 15137)

Niger

Purchased: 2022 Jan

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CK5)

History: Found in Niger and purchased in January 2022 by Mbark Arjdal.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Sparse chondrules containing Cr-magnetite are present within a recrystallized matrix containing stained Cr-magnetite and intermediate plagioclase.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa27.1±1.0, range Fa25.6-28.7, N = 8), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs25.8±0.4Wo0.7±0.3, range Fs25.4-26.3Wo0.5-1.1, N = 4), pigeonite (Fs24.3Wo6.3), magnetite (Cr2O3 2.2-5.2 wt.%, N = 8).

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CK5).

Specimens: 34.4 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. M. Arjdal.
