Northwest Africa 15243 (NWA 15243) Mali Purchased: 2022 Feb Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL3) History: Purchased by Mbark Arjdal in February 2022 from a Malian dealer. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, BrownU) Well-formed unequilibrated chondrules (apparent diameter 1240 ± 550 µm, N = 25) containing devitrified glass are set in a fine grained matrix containing altered kamacite, augite, chromite and troilite. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa17.3±8.9, range Fa2.0-34.4, N = 16; Cr2O3 in ferroan olivine 0.03-0.22 wt.%, mean 0.11 wt.%, sd 0.07 wt.%, N = 23), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs20.4±10.8Wo1.7±0.9, range Fs8.3-31.0Wo1.0-3.4, N = 7), subcalcic augite (Fs7.1Wo32.3; Fs19.5Wo20.0; N = 2). Magnetic susceptibility log χ (× 10-9 m3/kg) = 3.30. Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL3). Specimens: 39.7 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. M.
