Northwest Africa 15240 (NWA 15240) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2022 Mar Classification: Rumuruti chondrite (R3) History: Purchased by Ziyao Wang in March 2022 from a dealer in Agadir, Morocco. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Relatively small, unequilibrated chondrules (apparent diameter 480±190 µm, N = 24) and rare small, very fine grained CAI are set in a very fine grained matrix (~20 vol.%, almost opaque in thin section) containing extensively altered Fe and Fe-Ni sulfides, rare taenite and very rare altered kamacite, plus some secondary barite and calcite. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa28.9±18.8, range Fa0.9-44.9, N = 6), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs13.8±10.2Wo0.7±0.6, range Fs2.1-20.9Wo0.2-1.3, N = 3), pigeonite (Fs25.2Wo12.7), subcalcic augite (Fs22.8Wo29.3), augite (Fs10.3Wo41.2). Classification: R3 chondrite. Specimens: 26 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with WangZ. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
