Northwest Africa 15261 (NWA 15261) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 Oct Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H4) History: Purchased by Jason Whitcomb in October 2021 from an Algerian dealer. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, BrownU) Well-formed equilibrated chondrules containing devitrified glass occur within a relatively coarse grained matrix containing augite, altered kamacite, taenite, troilite, chromite, chlorapatite and merrillite, but no plagioclase. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa19.0±0.5, range Fa18.5-20.0, N = 9), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs16.9±0.7Wo1.5±0.3, range Fs16.4-18.2Wo1.1-1.9, N = 5), augite (Fs6.3±0.2Wo44.9±0.7, range Fs6.1-6.4Wo44.4-45.4, N = 2). Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H4). Specimens: 24.6 g including one polished thick section at PSF; remainder with Mr. J. Whitcomb. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
