Northwest Africa 15208 (NWA 15208) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2004 Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L5-7) History: Purchased by John Divelbiss in 2004 from a dealer in Toronto, who had obtained the material from a Moroccan source. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, BrownU.) Breccia composed of Type 5 chondrite clasts within a sparse fine grained matrix, and at least three large (3 to 5 mm) Type 7 chondrite clasts (analyzed in the studied thin section). The predominant lithology consists of sparse glass-free chondrules set in a recrystallized matrix containing stained kamacite, sodic plagioclase, augite, troilite, chromite, merrillite and chlorapatite. The Type 7 clasts have triple grain junction textures with no chondrule structures, and are composed of more magnesian olivine and low-Ca pyroxene together with sodic plagioclase, augite, troilite, and chlorapatite. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa25.3±0.6, range Fa24.6-26.2, N = 6), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs21.2±0.9Wo1.6±0.3, range Fs20.4-23.6Wo1.1-1.9, N = 9). Type 7 clast: olivine (Fa22.4±0.3, range Fa21.9-22.6, N = 7), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs19.3±0.5Wo2.2±0.6, range Fs18.9-19.7Wo1.8-2.6, N = 2), augite (Fs21.9Wo38.3). Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L5-7 breccia). Specimens: 24.3 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. J. Divelbiss. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
