Writeup from MB 111:

Northwest Africa 15305 (NWA 15305)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2022 Mar

Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, unbrecciated)

History: Purchased by Terry Boudreaux in March 2022 from a dealer in Zagora, Morocco.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Unbrecciated igneous texture with a bimodal grainsize distribution of plagioclase and pyroxene. There are larger grains (phenocrysts) of plagioclase (up to ~2 mm) and pyroxene (up to ~1 mm), as well as clusters of intergrown smaller, equant pyroxene and plagioclase grains (mean grainsize ~0.3 mm). The sample is composed predominantly of exsolved pigeonite and anorthite together with accessory silica polymorph, Ti-chromite, ilmenite, troilite and stained Ni-free Fe metal.

Geochemistry: Orthopyroxene hosts (Fs49.4-49.7Wo1.7-2.0, FeO/MnO = 28-29, N = 4), augite exsolution lamellae (Fs20.6-21.0Wo42.1-42.6, FeO/MnO = 26-30, N = 4), anorthite (An91.1-93.2Or0.4-0.2, N = 4).

Classification: Eucrite (unbrecciated, porphyritic-microgabbroic).

Specimens: 28.7 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Boudreaux.
