Northwest Africa 15322 (NWA 15322)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2021

Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, monomict)

History: Purchased from Adrar Algeria in 2021 by Edwin Thompson; subsequently acquired by Paul Stahura.

Physical characteristics: One stone with dark-brown fusion crust.

Petrography: (D. Sheikh, Cascadia) Sample is a breccia predominantly comprised of mm-sized, sub-angular basaltic clasts (most containing exsolved augite) and mineral fragments set within a dark, fine-grained matrix of the same composition containing accessory Cr-spinel, ilmenite, and SiO2-rich glass.

Geochemistry: Low-Ca Pyroxene (Fs63.0±1.2Wo2.6±0.6, range Fs60.4-65.2Wo2.0-4.6, Fe/Mn=31±1, n=23), Augite (Fs28.6±0.6Wo42.1±0.3, range Fs27.4-29.3Wo41.5-42.9, Fe/Mn=30±2, n=19), Calcic Plagioclase (An89.2±1.0, range An86.8-91.2, n=21).

Classification: Achondrite (eucrite, monomict breccia).

Specimens: 35.7 g at Cascadia, main mass with Paul Stahura.
