Northwest Africa 15323 (NWA 15323) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, brecciated) History: Purchased from Mauritania in 2021 by Edwin Thompson; subsequently acquired by Howard Stroupe. Physical characteristics: Many stones without observable fusion crust. Petrography: (D. Sheikh, Cascadia) Sample is a breccia predominantly comprised of mm-sized, sub-rounded to sub-angular cumulate and basaltic clasts and set within a fine-grained matrix containing accessory ilmenite and SiO2-rich glass. Geochemistry: Low-Ca Pyroxene (Fs60.0±0.8Wo4.2±0.9, range Fs58.6-61.8Wo2.4-5.7, Fe/Mn=32±1, n=19), Pigeonite (Fs47.7±3.9Wo19.6±4.5, range Fs43.1-56.5Wo8.9-24.9, Fe/Mn=31±1, n=11), High-Ca Pyroxene (Fs35.5±7.1Wo33.5±7.9, range Fs27.8-43.3Wo25.1-41.9, Fe/Mn=32±2, n=7), Calcic Plagioclase (An86.3±3.5, range An79.1-90.7, n=24).
