Writeup from MB 111:

Northwest Africa 15239 (NWA 15239)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2019 Aug

Classification: Achondrite (brachinite-like)

History: Purchased by Ziyao Wang in August 2019 from a dealer in Erfoud, Morocco.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Protogranular aggregate (mean grainsize ~450 µm) of olivine, orthopyroxene and augite with accessory low-Ti chromite, pentlandite, troilite and chlorapatite. No fresh metal or plagioclase were observed. Mafic silicates exhibit very little compositional variation. Secondary Fe oxides are present around primary sulfide grains and along grain boundaries.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa29.4-30.5, FeO/MnO = 57-62, N = 4), orthopyroxene (Fs24.3-24.6Wo2.0-2.2, FeO/MnO = 36-41, N = 4), augite (Fs9.6-9.8Wo44.1-44.2, FeO/MnO = 26-29, N = 4).

Classification: Achondrite (brachinite-like). Likely paired with NWA 5400 and other specimens.

Specimens: 23.8 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with WangZ.
