Northwest Africa 15369 (NWA 15369)

Purchased: 2021

Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, brecciated)

History: Purchased in 2021 by Paul Stahura from Edwin Thompson, who had previously purchased it from a meteorite dealer in Mauritania.

Physical characteristics: Single stone with dark brown fusion crust.

Petrography: (D. Sheikh, Cascadia) Specimen is brecciated in appearance and is comprised of mm-sized, sub-angular basaltic and cumulate lithic clasts set within a finer-grained matrix having accessory SiO2-rich glass and ilmenite.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa84.0±1.2, range Fa82.4-85.3, Fe/Mn=38±1, n=4), Low-Ca Pyroxene (Fs44.8±12.9Wo4.4±1.0, range Fs30.7-61.3Wo2.7-5.5, Fe/Mn=29±3, n=11), Pigeonite (Fs51.8±5.1Wo12.7±5.4, range Fs42.5-60.0Wo6.6-22.2, Fe/Mn=30±2, n=19), High-Ca Pyroxene (Fs34.3±6.1Wo35.9±6.5, range Fs27.1-42.2Wo27.4-43.6, Fe/Mn=29±1, n=6), Calcic Plagioclase (An86.9±3.3, range An82.0-93.0, n=21).

Classification: Achondrite (Eucrite, brecciated).

Specimens: 84.95 g at Cascadia, main mass with Paul Stahura.
