Northwest Africa 15370 (NWA 15370) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, brecciated) History: Purchased in 2021 by Steve Brittenham from Edwin Thompson, who had previously purchased it from a meteorite dealer in Mauritania. Physical characteristics: Single stone with dark gray/brown fusion crust. Petrography: (D. Sheikh, Cascadia) Brecciated eucrite composed of mm-sized, sub-rounded basaltic and cumulate lithic clasts set within a finer-grained matrix with accessory merrillite, Fe-Ni metal, SiO2-rich glass, and ilmenite. Geochemistry: Low-Ca Pyroxene (Fs48.8±11.1Wo4.6±0.6, range Fs29.5-58.0Wo3.5-5.4, Fe/Mn=31±3, n=13), Pigeonite (Fs49.8±8.3Wo9.2±4.5, range Fs30.8-59.0Wo5.5-19.9, Fe/Mn=31±2, n=16), High-Ca Pyroxene (Fs27.2±2.6Wo39.3±2.9, range Fs22.7-30.6Wo33.9-44.6, Fe/Mn=30±3, n=15), Calcic Plagioclase (An88.7±3.2, range An80.2-92.4, n=23). Classification: Achondrite (Eucrite, brecciated). Specimens: 36.7 g at Cascadia, main mass with Steve Brittenham. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
