Northwest Africa 15371 (NWA 15371)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2021

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L6)

History: Purchased in 2021 by Paul Stahura from Edwin Thompson, who had previously purchased it from a meteorite dealer in Mauritania.

Physical characteristics: Single stone with dark brown fusion crust.

Petrography: (D. Sheikh, Cascadia) Equilibrated ordinary chondrite containing secondary recrystallized feldspar (Av. ~65 μm) and accessory chromite, merrillite, Fe-Ni metal, and troilite.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa24.3±0.3, range Fa23.7-25.0, n=17), Low-Ca Pyroxene (Fs20.5±0.2Wo1.5±0.2, range Fs20.1-20.7Wo1.3-1.8, n=12).

Classification: Ordinary Chondrite (L6).

Specimens: 73.6 g at Cascadia, main mass with Paul Stahura.
