Northwest Africa 15412 (NWA 15412) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: July, 2019 Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, polymict) History: The meteorite was purchased from a meteorite dealer in Talsint, Morocco. Physical characteristics: Many small dark grayish fragments some of which covered with minor fusion crust. Petrography: Polymict breccia consisting of up to 3 mm sized basaltic and rare black melt clasts plus up to 1 mm sized mineral fragments set in fine-grained clastic matrix. Main mineral phases are exsolved pyroxene, zoned low-Ca pyroxene, and calcic plagioclase. Minor phases include ferroan olivine, silica, chromite, ilmenite, troilite, and metallic iron. Geochemistry: low-Ca pyroxene: Fs49.9±0.9Wo3.2±0.3 (Fs48.7-51.6Wo2.5-3.5, FeO/MnO=31-33, n=7); Ca-pyroxene exsolution lamellae: Fs26.2±1.2Wo37.3±1.0 (Fs24.0-27.8Wo36.2-39.1, FeO/MnO=27-31, n=7); zoned low-Ca pyroxene: Fs36.1±6.4Wo4.5±0.7 (Fs29.8-47.0Wo3.3-5.7, FeO/MnO=22-33, n=7); fayalite: Fa73.3±0.2 (Fa73.2-73.6, FeO/MnO=44±2, n=3); calcic plagioclase: An89.9±2.7 (An87.1-93.9, n=7). | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
