Erg Atouila 004 (EA 004) 22.974°N, 4.931°W Gao, Mali Purchased: 2021 Nov Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H4) History: Found in Mali and purchased by Abdelaziz Akmach in November 2021 from a dealer in Gao, Mali. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, BrownU) Relatively small, well-formed equilibrated chondrules containing devitrified glass and plagioclase are set in a relatively coarse grained matrix conaining pervasively altered kamacite, pentlandite and chromite. Alteration products include Fe oxides or hydroxides and Fe phosphate. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa18.8±0.1, range Fa18.6-19.0, N = 8), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs16.3±0.3Wo1.3±0.1, range Fs15.9-16.7Wo1.1-1.3, N = 6). Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H4). Specimens: 29.8 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. A. Akmach. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
