Northwest Africa 15399 (NWA 15399)

Purchased: 2022

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CO3)

History: The meteorite was purchased from a meteorite dealer in Algeria.

Physical characteristics: Two dark brownish fragments without fusion crust.

Petrography: The meteorite shows a chondritic texture and is predominantly composed of abundant chondrules of intermediate size (mean diameter about 300 µm), CAIs, and mineral fragments set into a fine-grained dark brownish matrix. Opaque phases are magnetite and rare, partly altered metal.
