Northwest Africa 15472 (NWA 15472)

Purchased: 2022

Classification: Enstatite chondrite (EL6)

History: The meteorite was purchased from a meteorite dealer in Morocco.

Physical characteristics: Brownish fragment largely covered with fusion crust.

Petrography: Enstatite melt rock showing a recrystallized texture of up to 200 µm sized enstatite and subordinate sodic plagioclase grains plus interspersed rounded albitic, Si-rich melt inclusions. Opaque phases include Si-bearing kamacite, troilite, and daubréelite. No relict chondrules have been observed.

Geochemistry: enstatite: Fs0.3±0.2Wo1.4±0.2 (Fs0.1-0.6Wo0.8-1.7, n=10); feldspar: An18.3±1.1Ab77.9±0.9Or3.8±0.3 (An15.4-19.1Ab-77.0-80.2Or3.5-4.4, n=10); kamacite: Ni=6.1±0.5, Si=1.12±0.06, Co=0.32±0.03, n=5
