Coaldale 38.008°N, 117.654°W Nevada, United States Find: 2022 Apr 23 Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H4) History: Found by Sonny Clary on April 23, 2022, at a desert location south of McLeans and west of Coaldale, Nevada. Physical characteristics: A single dark stone (190 g) lacking fusion crust. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and P. Carpenter, WUSL) Relatively small, well-formed equilibrated chondrules containing devitrified glass are set in a relatively coarse grained matrix containing altered kamacite, taenite and troilite, but no plagioclase. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa16.6±0.2, range Fa16.5-16.8, N = 4), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs14.8±0.3Wo0.6±0.3, range Fs14.5-15.1Wo0.4-0.9, N = 3), pigeonite (Fs13.7Wo6.3), augite (Fs8.2±3.5Wo42.2±0.3, range Fs5.7-10.6Wo42.4-42.0, N = 2). Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H4). Specimens: 36.5 g including one covered thin section and one polished slice at UWB; remainder with Mr. R. Clary. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
