Northwest Africa 14876 (NWA 14876) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 Sep Classification: Enstatite chondrite (EL6) History: Purchased by Jason Whitcomb in September 2021 from an Algerian dealer. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, BrownU) Protogranular aggregate composed of enstatite, diopside and sodic plagioclase with accessory Si-bearing kamacite, daubreelite, alabandite, oldhamite, troilite and schreibersite. Sparse radial pyroxene chondrules are present. Geochemistry: Enstatite (Fs0.2±0.1Wo1.6±0.1, range Fs0.0-0.4Wo1.5-1.7, N = 5), diopside (Fs0.2±0.1Wo45.9±0.1, range Fs0.1-0.3Wo45.8-46.0, N = 3), plagioclase (Ab81.5±0.7An14.2±0.4Or4.4±0.3, range Ab80.6-82.2An13.8-14.7Or4.0-4.7, N = 4), metal (Ni 5.5-6.5 wt.%, Si 0.8±0.0 wt.%, N = 7). Classification: Enstatite chondrite (EL6). Specimens: 22.3 g including one polished thin section at PSF; remainder with Mr. J. Whitcomb. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
