Northwest Africa 15690 (NWA 15690)

Morocco

Purchased: 2018

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H6)

History: Purchased in 2022 by Mark Zalcik from Dean Bessey, who purchased it from a Moroccan dealer in Erfoud in 2018

Petrography: (C. Herd, UAb) Optical and microprobe examination of a polished thin section shows a brecciated texture of poorly defined chondrules, crosscut by numerous shock veins. Iron staining and alteration is prevalent. Olivine shows weak mosaicism and PFs.

Geochemistry: (C. Herd and A. Locock, UAb) Data obtained by EMP examination of carbon-coated thin section: Olivine Fa_19.0±0.9(n=20); Low-Ca Pyroxene Fs_16.8±0.9Wo_1.1±0.3(n=8).

Classification: Ordinary chondrite, H6 breccia

Specimens: Type specimen of 31.2 g, including one thin section, is at UAb. Main mass with M. Zalcik.
