Northwest Africa 15636 (NWA 15636)

Purchased: 2017 Dec

Classification: Rumuruti chondrite (R3)

History: Purchased by Ziyao Wang in December 2017 from a dealer in Agadir, Morocco.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, BrownU) Separated well-formed, unequilibrated chondrules (apparent diameter 430 ± 230 µm, N = 25) containing devitrified glass are set in a fine grained matrix (~40 vol.%, dark brown in thin section) containing pentlandite, troilite, chromite, sodic plagioclase and minor Ni-poor kamacite.

Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa17.5±14.8, range Fa0.7-45.0, N = 13), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs18.3±7.0Wo1.3±1.1, range Fs7.2-25.9Wo0.3-3.4, N = 9), pigeonite (Fs26.8Wo8.7).

Classification: R3 chondrite.

Specimens: 26 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with WangZ.
