Northwest Africa 15660 (NWA 15660) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2022 Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CK4) History: The meteorite was purchased from a meteorite dealer in Morocco. Physical characteristics: Grayish to dark greenish rock largely covered with fusion crust. Petrography: The meteorite displays a fresh dark greenish interior and is composed of sparse, sharply defined chondrules (apparent mean diameter about 850 µm) set in abundant recrystallized matrix. Main mineral phase in chondrules and matrix is ferroan, Ni-bearing olivine. Minor phases include low-Ca pyroxene, Ca-pyroxene, intermediate plagioclase, troilite, and pentlandite. Cr-rich magnetite is abundant; no CAIs detected. Geochemistry: olivine: Fa31.9±0.1 (Fa31.7-32.0, FeO/MnO=109±16; NiO=0.52±0.04 wt%, n=10); low-Ca pyroxene: Fs26.7±0.1Wo0.5±0.1 (Fs26.5-26.9Wo0.4-0.6, n=10); Ca-pyroxene: Fs14.0±1.9Wo48.8±0.7 (Fs10.3-16.3Wo46.8-49.6, n=10); feldspar: An25.4-70.4Ab28.8-68.8Or0.8-5.8, n=10; magnetite contains 5.88±0.13 wt% Cr2O3, n=7 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
