Northwest Africa 15721 (NWA 15721) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: Dec 2022 Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CVred3) History: The meteorite was purchased from a meteorite dealer in Tan-Tan, Morocco. Physical characteristics: Dark brownish rock with some fusion crust. Petrography: The meteorite shows a grayish to light brownish interior and is composed of large up to 2 mm sized chondrules, up to 1 cm sized whitish CAIs, and olivine amoeboids all set into a fine-grained matrix. Opaque phases are metal, chromite, and essentially Ni-free sulfides. Few chondrules show reddish staining due to terrestrial alteration. Geochemistry: Ni in sulfides <0.06 wt%, N=7 Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CVred3). Reduced subgroup based on low concentrations of Ni in sulfides (Gattacceca et al., 2020). | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
