Writeup from MB 112:
Northwest Africa 15723 (NWA 15723) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: June, 2022 Classification: Ureilite History: Reportedly found by meteorite hunters in Mauritania und subsequently purchased by Mr. Jasper Spencer via Facebook Messenger. Physical characteristics: Dark brownish rock lacking fusion crust. Petrography: Coarse-grained protogranular aggregate composed of up to 2 mm rounded to subrounded olivine and pigeonite crystals, both displaying characteristic reduced rims. The meteorite contains graphite, troilite, and mostly altered kamacite. Geochemistry: reduced rims in olivine: Fa5.8-9.3; olivine contains 0.51±0.04 wt% Cr2O3 and 0.30±0.02 wt% CaO; reduced rims in pyroxene: Fs2.8-8.3Wo5.9-9.7; pigeonite contains 1.22±0.03 wt% Cr2O3 and 1.82±0.05 wt% Al2O3 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
