Writeup from MB 112:

Northwest Africa 15732 (NWA 15732)

(Northwest Africa)

Purchased: 2022

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L6)

History: Fabien Kuntz purchased 49 fragments (some of which show fusion crust) from a dealer in Rissani in April of 2022.

Physical characteristics: Type specimen is a flattened irregularly shaped stone with minor remnant fusion crust. The cut face shows very poorly defined sparse remnant chondrules, FeNi metal and troilite.

Petrography: Description and classification (A. Love, App) Sample shows a recrystallized chondritic texture within indistinct chondrules (avg. apparent diameter 874 µm, n=18). Additional minerals are: high Ca pyroxene, plagioclase (avg grain-size 61 µm, n=20), FeNi grains (~4 vol%), troilite, chromite, apatite and rare ilmenite.

Geochemistry: (A. Love, App) Olivine (Fa24.2±0.4, Fe/Mn=43.8±1.5, n=12); low Ca-pyroxene (Fs20.3±0.1W1.3±0.2, Fe/Mn=26.9±0.9 n=10).

Classification: Ordinary chondrite (L6 C-S3 W1). Mineral compositions and textures, metal abundance and magnetic susceptibility indicate sample is an L6 ordinary chondrite.

Specimens: Fabien Kuntz holds the main masses. A polished thin section and a partially crusted individual weighing 84.07 g are on deposit at App.
