Northwest Africa 15741 (NWA 15741) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: August 2022 Classification: Rumuruti chondrite (R3) Physical characteristics: Dark brown irregular stone. Cut surface reveals a brownish interior with chondrules and abundant matrix. Petrography: (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE) Chondrites with chondrules with average apparent diameter 300±110 µm (n=15) set in an abundant recrystallized matrix making up about 50 vol%. Matrix plagioclase average size 20 µm. Opaque minerals are moslty weathered, with rare remnants of sulfides and metal. Geochemistry: Olivine Fa37.7±4.28, range Fa28.3-40.9, NiO 0.17±0.05 wt% (n=6). Pyroxene Fs11.5Wo46.1 (n=1). Classification: Rumuruti chondrite (R3) Specimens: Type specimen at CEREGE. Main mass with Kuntz. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
