Northwest Africa 15758 (NWA 15758)

Purchased: 2022 Apr

Classification: Carbonaceous chondrite (CK6)

History: Jason Whitcomb purchased a single stone from a Moroccan dealer.

Petrography: (J. Gattacceca, CEREGE) Chondrite with chondrules with average apparent diameter 860±520 µm (n=22) set in an abundant recrystallized matrix with plagioclase grain size 100 µm. Magnetite is abundant in chondrules as blebs to 300 µm and along chondrule rims, and in the matrix as blebs to 300 µm. Accessory sulfides (pyrite).

Geochemistry: Olivine Fa32.7, NiO 0.48 wt% (n=2). Pyroxene Fs9.4Wo48.3 (n=2). Magnetite Cr2O3 4.22 wt% (n=2).
