Writeup from MB 112:
Northwest Africa 15025 (NWA 15025) (Northwest Africa) Purchased: 2021 Aug Classification: Rumuruti chondrite (R3) History: Purchased by Jason Whitcomb in August 2021 from an Algerian dealer. Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, BrownU) Well-delineated chondrules (apparent diameter 590 ± 300 µm, N = 25), zoned olivine fragments and fine-grained CAI are set in a fine grained matrix (~35 vol.%, deep reddish-brown in thin section) containing troilite, chromite and minor magnetite and secondary gypsum. Rare kamacite is present within some chondrules. Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa30.3±13.4, range Fa8.9-45.7, N = 9; Cr2O3 in ferroan olivine 0.04-0.07 wt.%, N = 8), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs13.5±9.8Wo1.5±1.3, range Fs3.5-24.2Wo0.3-3.1, N = 5), augite (Fs35.8±2.4Wo46.4±2.0, range Fs34.1-37.5Wo45.0-47.8, N = 2). Magnetic susceptibility log χ (× 10-9 m3/kg) = 2.96. Classification: Rumuruti chondrite (R3) Specimens: 22.6 g including one polished thin section at PSF; remainder with Mr. J. Whitcomb. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
