Toksun 002 42°41.411’N, 88°59.953’E Xinjiang, China Find: 16 March 2022 Classification: Iron meteorite (IVA) History: Discovered by Aili and Yimaer in the desert near Ayding Lake, Xinjiang Province, on March 16, 2022, and subsequently acquired by Ziyao Wang in March 2022. Physical characteristics: The single, rounded mass has a dark brown surface with light-colored patches. Petrography: (C. Herd, UAb) Examination of polished and etched surfaces shown in photos provided by the owner reveals a well-developed Widmanstaetten pattern consistent with finest octahedrite. No inclusions are apparent. No alteration of the interior is evident. Geochemistry: ICP-MS data, using sample of North Chile (Filomena) as standard (C. Herd and S. DuFrane UAb): Ni = 9.3, Co = 0.412 (both wt%); Ir = 1.9, Ga = 2.4, As = 9.2, Ru = 3.3, Pd = 5.7, Re = 0.19, W = 0.58, Pt = 5.2, Cu = 128, Au = 2.0 (all μg/g). Ge below detection. Classification: (C. Herd, UAb): IVA iron. Specimens: Type specimen of 28.5 g at UAb. Main mass with Ziyao Wang. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
