Writeup from MB 112:

Northwest Africa 15567 (NWA 15567)

Laayoun, Morocco

Find: 2013

Classification: Enstatite chondrite (EL6)

History: A stone weighing 139 g was collected by nomads and sold to Nicola Castellano at the Genova Mineral Fair in 2014

Physical characteristics: The main mass displays no fusion crust.

Petrography: (V. Moggi Cecchi, G. Pratesi, L. Fabrizi, UniFi): A thin section displays an equilibrated texture consisting in a fine-grained, pyroxene-dominant matrix, with minor plagioclase. No relict chondrules are visible. The main opaque phases are kamacite and troilite, partially weathered to iron oxides. Blades of alabandite and daubreelite are occasionally visible in troilite. The presence of alabandite, An content of plagioclase and Si content of kamacite point to a classification as EL chondrite;

Geochemistry: EMP (V. Moggi Cecchi, G. Pratesi, L. Fabrizi, UniFi): Orthopyroxene (Fs0.6±0.1En98.0±0.3Wo1.4±0.1), plagioclase (An15.0Or4.1); Si in kamacite = 0.5 wt.%, Mn in daubreelite = 2.7 wt.%

Classification: Enstatite chondrite (EL6); S1; W3

Specimens: The main mass, weighing 114 g, is owned by Castellano; the type specimen, weighing 23.9 g, and one thin section are on deposit at MSN-FI (Inventory # I-3685).
