Northwest Africa 15633 (NWA 15633)

Purchased: 2019

Classification: Ureilite

History: Purchased by Shun-Chung Yang in 2019 from a dealer in Madrid, who had obtained the material from a Moroccan source.

Petrography: (A. Irving, UWS and J. Boesenberg, BrownU) Protogranular aggregate (mean grainsize ~2 mm) of predominantly olivine and pigeonite with triple grain junctions. Accessory phases include daubreelite, troilite, kamacite, and some secondary calcite along grain boundaries. Olivine grains have dark, reduced more magnesian rims containing fine blebby Fe metal. - oli, opx, silica inclusions, blebs of FeNi metal and troilite, Fe blebs, daubreelite, pigeonite, troilite, rust, 50-100 micron thick veins of calcite

Geochemistry: Olivine (cores Fa16.0-23.0, CaO = 0.38-0.45 wt.%, Cr2O3 = 0.68-0.83 wt.%, N = 5; rims Fa4.4-12.7, N = 5), pigeonite (Fs11.4-18.6Wo9.7-11.2, Al2O3 = 0.15-0.54 wt.%, Cr2O3 = 1.03-1.12 wt.%, TiO2 = 0.03-0.07 wt.%, N = 8).

Classification: Ureilite.

Specimens: 12.0 g including one polished thin section at UWB; remainder with Mr. S.-C. Yang.
